Phil Collins "The Greatest Hits"

Selling records and winning awards are the things that have always come easy to Phil Collins. He has sold 100 million solo records and another 150 million with Genesis, putting him in the same rarefied league as Madonna, Elton John and Pink Floyd. His numerous awards include seven Grammys, two Golden Globes and an Oscar (for You’ll Be In My Heart from Disney’s Tarzan).

Whiz Khalifa "Cabin Fever 2"

One of the more recent examples of prior industry woes spawning eventual success, Wiz Khalifa has earned a spot within Hip Hop's current elite given an endless determination to make an impact on today's game. Much like Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, his excessive tattoos and marijuana consumption have made his brand indispensable to some with others debating his staying power, seeing him to be purely style over substance. As anticipation steadily builds for his forthcoming retail release O.N.I.F.C., Wiz Khalifa's newest mixtape Cabin Fever 2 is an early fourth quarter appetizer designed to hold fans over.

Robbie Williams "Take The Crown"

"They said it was leaving me, the magic was leaving me: I don't think so," reckons Robbie Williams on Be a Boy, the opening salvo of his latest album – one that many will label a comeback. Given that Williams has sold out a run of three shows at London's O2 Arena this month in less than an hour, it's safe to say that the glitter of Take That's record-breaking second reunion has stuck to the clown prince of British pop. If you cup your hand to your ear, the multi-tracked sigh of relief is audible all the way from LA. The formerly troubled star is now a happily married father of one, but his needy bluster continues to fascinate.

Brandy "Two Eleven"

In retrospect, Brandy regretted how her fifth album turned out. She blamed herself, and she blamed others — most notably, longtime producer Rodney Jerkins. “Where I felt creatively it could’ve gone and the space I was in creatively, I needed everybody around me to be in that same space,” she said to Out. Brandy may be a solo artist, but to her, 2008′s Human was a failed collaboration.

TLC "Now and Forever"

Released a little over a year after TLC's final posthumous 3D, Now and Forever: The Hits is a superb 19-track compilation of the trio's heyday as the greatest girl group of the '90s. With the exception of the minor hits "I'm Good at Being Bad," "Dear Lie," and the holiday single "Sleigh Ride," every one of their hit singles is here, including such decade-defining songs as "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," "Creep," "Waterfalls," "No Scrubs" (presented in its "Rap Version"), and "Unpretty," presented in a roughly chronological order. TLC had expertly crafted albums, especially in CrazySexyCool and FanMail, but their highlights always appeared on singles, and when they're collected together as they are here, it's not only an excellent career summary, it's an addictive listen. [Now and Forever was also released with a bonus DVD that contained the videos for their five biggest hits: "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," "Waterfalls," "Creep," "No Scrubs," and "Unpretty."]

Ne-Yo "R.E.D"

Though it’s his fifth studio album, 2012’s R.E.D. — an acronym for Realizing Every Dream — is Ne-Yo’s first full-length on Motown. From the subtly retro-soul of opener “Cracks In Mr. Perfect” (cleverly tripped-up with self-deprecating lyrics that somehow make him even more charming) to the libidinous tension of the closing dance-pop hit “Burning Up,” R.E.D. plays as if the prolific R&B singer-songwriter saved his best songs for this album. And now as Senior Vice President of A&R for Motown, Ne-Yo seems even more driven to make top-shelf recordings. He enlisted indie-pop star Sia Furler to collaborate with the writing on standout jam “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself).” Her additions of synthesizer laced Euro-pop textures and soaring melodies in the song’s uplifting chorus are a perfect fit with Ne-Yo’s impassioned singing. Moreover, the hooks are so catchy — they beg for further songwriting alliance. With the sultry rhythm of a heavy heartbeat, “Lazy Love” proves that Ne-Yo can pen a steamy serenade on par with those of R. Kelly.

2. ’Lazy Love’
3. ’Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)’

Linkin Park "Living Things"

The band states that Living Things combines elements from their previous four studio albums to create a new sound. They stated they finally felt they were in "familiar territory" and "comfortable in [their] own skin" after years of experimentation that resulted in their two previous studio albums, Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns. Living Things was chosen as the album's title because of the numerous personal topics on the album.

01. Lost In The Echo
02. In My Remains
03. Burn It Down
04. Lies Greed Misery
05. I'll Be Gone

FloRida "Wild Ones"

Wild Ones is the fourth album from rapper/pop artist Flo Rida and is far and ahead the best album to date from the artist. Unlike Flo Rida's previous albums which featured hit singles, but mediocre or worse tracks filling the album Wild Ones is filled with all songs worthy of being singles. On his new album Flo Rida has figured out a successful formula to put together a well-rounded album which features multiple hit songs.

DMX "Undisputed"

For most rap veterans, there comes a point where the saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” reigns true. To change after close to 15 years in the game is difficult, if not impossible, which seems to be the case for DMX. The passionate Yonkers rapper rose to the forefront of the game in a flash, releasing two classics in less than a year in 1998: It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood. With Undisputed, his first album in six years, X tries to recapture what once made him a top dog, though ultimately biting off a bit more than he can chew

Miyerkules, Nobyembre 14, 2012

Columbia's 1998 collection of Earth, Wind & Fire's Greatest Hits in many ways stands as the group's definitive compilation. Even though there have been more extensive overviews of the group's work, such as the triple-disc set The Eternal Dance, this is the first collection to contain all of the group's biggest hits on one disc. All but one ("Love Music") of the ten songs from 1978's The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire are included, while six of the ten songs from The Best Of, Vol. 2 are featured; the remaining two cuts on the 17-track collection are the minor early single "Kalimba Story" and the album cut "Gratitude." These are fine additions to the album, but the true meat of the collection lies in the hits -- "Shining Star," "That's the Way of the World," "Sing a Song," "Getaway," "Got to Get You Into My Life," "September," "Boogie Wonderland," "After the Love Has Gone," "Let's Groove," and so many others. They might not be presented in chronological order (the only flaw in this otherwise flawless collection), but it's a sheer delight to have all of the hits on one terrifically entertaining and valuable disc.

Boyz II Men

Boyz II Men ruled the charts in the early 1990s with their smooth, doo-wop vocal harmonies and a production that was inspired equally by new jack swing, urban contemporary, and `60s and `70s soul. Legacy: The Greatest Hits Collection CD music LEGACY: THE GREATEST HITS collects the quartet's biggest hits, beginning with their dynamic first single, "Motownphilly," which, although sleek and commercial, sounds positively funky compared to the lush balladry that followed. Legacy: The Greatest Hits Collection music CDs Naturally, the group's monster smashes take center stage, and anyone who was within earshot of a radio in the `90s will recognize "End of the Road," "I'll Make Love to You," and "On Bended Knee." Those hits alone are enough to sell this set, but cuts like "Hey Lover," featuring LL Cool J, and their cover of the Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night" are an added incentive.

The Complete Confection

There have been countless great pop songs about "California Gurls," some of them by actual California girls. But Katy Perry's Number One smash is one of the girliest and most Californian. It sets the tone for Teenage Dream, Perry's album about Cali girls: their hopes, their dreams, their desire to hit the skate park in high heels. Throughout Dream, she chases an all-American teen-pop sound that's older than the Hollywood Hills. One of her best songs, "The One That Got Away," sets the scene: "Summer after high school, when we first met/We'd make out in your Mustang to Radiohead." From there, she just piles on the sun-drenched drama.

1. "Teenage Dream"
2. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"
3. "California Gurls" (featuring Snoop Dogg)
4. "Firework"
5. "Peacock"
6. "Circle the Drain"
7. "The One That Got Away"
8. "E.T."
9. "Who Am I Living For?"
10. "Pearl"
11. "Hummingbird Heartbeat"
12. "Not Like the Movies"

Three new tracks:
1. "Part Of Me"
2. "Dressin' Up"
3. "Wide Awake"

Four remixed tracks:
1. "E.T." (featuring Kanye West)
2. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" (featuring Missy Elliott)
3. "The One That Got Away" (Acoustic Version)
4. Tommie Sunshine Megamix (featuring elements from the 6 singles from 'Teenage Dream': "California Gurls" (featuring Snoop Dogg), "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T." (featuring Kanye West), "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", and "The One That Got Away")

Nothing But The Beat

David Guetta's success is based on a simple idea: combine the dominant European and American ideas of pop, and clean up worldwide. In practice, that means putting hip-hop and R&B vocals over hands-aloft club beats. As happens with most obvious ideas, an awful lot of other people are doing it, too – colossal Eurodance beats are the foundation of Stargate's production desk success, and Dr Luke's too. But Guetta is the brand leader – his fingerprints were on the Black Eyed Peas' ubiquitous I Gotta Feeling, and he's had four No 1s under his own name. As his sales and profile rise, he's traded up his original vocal collaborators – such as gospel singer Chris Willis, still the touring voice of the Guetta sound – for an altogether glitzier lineup. Nothing But the Beat features Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, Akon, Snoop Dogg and Jessie J, all trying to get to grips with his music's endless, gleaming brashness. There may not be a King of Pop right now, but Guetta can lay reasonable claim to be its Managing Director.

Adele's album 21

When Adele released her second album, 21, in January of 2011, few people could have predicted it would become the music industry's biggest hit in years, selling nearly 10 million copes, landing six singles at the top of the charts and winning six Grammys, including Album, Record and Song of the Year. The new issue of Rolling Stone, on stands Friday, September 28th, tells the untold story of the making of a modern classic and includes interviews with Adele's manager Jonathan Dickins, executive producer Rick Rubin, her songwriting collaborator Ryan Tedder and many more – including fans such as AndrĂ© 3000, Aretha Franklin and even Neil Diamond.

Trey Songz Chapter V

On Chapter V, one of his most consistently strong albums, he begins to explore life on the other side. That’s clear from the moist single “Dive In,” in which he deploys a light and lovely falsetto that’s reminiscent of Usher, even though the quaver in his voice elsewhere on the song is pure R. Kelly.

Overexposed

It takes chutzpah for a band to call its fourth album Overexposed, especially when the singer has spent most of the past year zinger-slinging in a comfy red chair on The Voice. You can hear that chutzpah in the blinged-up disco sheen of Maroon 5's new LP, which is why it's their best yet. This is where Adam Levine cops to the slick Hollywood sex-panther role he's perfected on TV, wheedling and pitching woo to every lady within earshot, even though they know he won't remember their name in the morning.

Looking for myself

Looking 4 Myself isn’t a classic, it’s just not, but until I hear better, it’s the best R&B album of the year. We’ll see how Chris Brown’s upcoming Fortune shakes out, and there’s a one-in-a-million chance D’Angelo will stage a comeback this year, but I just don’t see another project in the pipeline that will be this commercially and artistically well crafted. So how long can Usher keep it going? How long can he maintain his undisputed status as R&B’s dominant force? The laws of space, time and pop culture say that he’ll eventually, inevitably, fade into the background. But like a NBA player who came into the league right out of high school, he’s far younger than you think. Yes, he’s been putting out albums for almost two decades, but he’s still only 33-years-old. It’s not unreasonable to think that Usher could continue to keep the R&B crown for another decade, and as far as I’m concerned, long live King Usher! Long live Looking 4 Myself!

Blow P!nk One Last Kiss

P!nk has never been one to shy away from telling the whole world what's going on inside her head. One minute, she could be lamenting about one of the many volatile relationships she's dealt with in the past. The next thing you know, she could be singing along to a bouncy tune full of expletive lyrics. No matter the case, P!nk always stays true to herself, and that's exactly what I love about her. She's funny, honest, and down to earth when it comes to her unique brand of pop music. And with her long-awaited sixth studio album "The Truth About Love", the audacious pop singer knocks it out of the park once again. "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)", the innuendo-laden first single, is easily the catchiest track on the entire record. The melody is like an ear worm that simply refuses to leave your subconscious, and the fun, brash lyrics are just as inescapable. Other stand-out songs include "True Love", an upbeat tune about dysfunctional romance, and "Try", a simplistic self-help ballad with a feel-good message. As for my favorite track on the album, that'd have to be "Just Give Me a Reason", an awesome duet with Fun.'s Nate Ruess. "Beam Me Up" and "Walk of Shame" are worth listening to as well. Overall, though, I'd have to say this is one of my favorite records of 2012 so far. It's fun, unpredictable, and absolutely addictive, at least in my opinion it is. P!nk has once again proven that she's still a huge force to be reckoned with in the mainstream pop world. With her raspy voice and emotionally piercing lyrics, it's no wonder why "The Truth About Love" is just as good, if not better than her previous releases. I've always been a fan of her music, and that's not gonna change. So what are you waiting for? Let P!nk take you on a fantastic musical journey you won't soon forget!

Taylor has done it again. This new album is the quintessence of country pop. Her venturing into more of the pop genre is clearly exhibited but her soft spoken detail filled lyrics are still there.
